CNN’s Erin Burnett: ‘I want to thank our friends in Iran’ for helping us survive an Iranian attack
CNN’s Jim Acosta has been fired after being forced out of his job after an explosive report.
The network announced Friday that the “Inside Politics” host was fired after the “Piers Morgan Tonight” show aired a report claiming he had a secret meeting with Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, and the leader of the country’s powerful Revolutionary Guard Corps.CNN has yet to release a statement on the allegations.
CNN said it was acting on an internal review after Acosta posted the report on Twitter.
Acosta was hired in February as a co-host of CNN’s “State of the Union.”
He has appeared on several other programs.
Acosta was one of the most respected journalists in the United States and was considered a leading voice in the Trump administration.
But Acosta’s work has been at odds with the administration and its allies in Congress.
In April, the Senate passed a resolution condemning Acosta for “grossly misrepresenting and defaming” the Iranian government.
Trump fired Acosta on Monday after his network aired the report, which alleged that Acosta had a private conversation with Rouhani and other senior officials, which CNN has said was false.
“The allegations that were made against Jim Acosto are without merit, and we have already fired him.
We will work with the Department of Justice and other relevant agencies to take swift and decisive action to protect the integrity of our news organization,” CNN said in a statement.
In an interview with Fox News on Friday, Acosta said he didn’t think it was a good idea for him to be part of the network.
“I think it’s just not a good fit,” Acosta told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
“I think I’m just not an American patriot.
I think it doesn’t represent me and I don’t think the American people like it.”CNN said Acosta is not alone.
“In a statement issued Friday, the network said that CNN’s news division is “deeply troubled” by the report and is conducting a review of its relationship with Acosta and the network as a whole.”
This is an ongoing internal review of our relationship with Jim Acorton and we’re confident the findings will lead to a full and swift resolution,” CNN added.
Acosto did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The CNN report said that Acostopo had met with Rouhani in April, but that it was not immediately clear whether they discussed the attack.
Acostotis interview with Hannity was part of a program that aired on CNN and other networks on Tuesday.
Acusto was not in the same room as the Iranian leaders as part of CNN coverage of the incident, the report said.CNN did not comment on the story.
In May, the United Nations confirmed that an Iranian nuclear scientist was killed in the city of Natanz, and Tehran said it had evidence of a missile test.
The nuclear test was not detected by satellite.
